I recently visited New Orleans for a trip with my business organization, Future Business Leaders of America, and I absolutely fell in love with it. The only information I had on New Orleans mainly came from textbooks in elementary school or one of my faves, the TV show “The Originals”. I ended up enjoying it so much more than I thought I would.
I decided to make a post strictly on the best places I ate while I was there, rather than a whole New Orleans post, because I seriously might have built an addiction to “beignets” while I was there. Yes, Bourbon Street and Frenchmen Street were ABSOLUTELY INSANE and even more lively than Vegas, but the food was the best part in my opinion. This could absolutely change when I visit again, considering I recently turned 21. ♥ The only restaurant missing from this post is Deanie’s Seafood Restaurant, because I was so infatuated with my gumbo that I literally forgot to take any photos of my food. Needless to say, you should also go there.
1. Cafe Du Monde
Cafe Du Monde was my favorite place for numerous reasons. Pricing and atmosphere may be the top two. I don’t think I’ve been in a more fast paced environment. None of the waiters or waitresses talk to you for more than two seconds, and if you don’t have your order quickly, you’ll find yourself with about 3 different waiters/waitresses. Since this is one of the most famous places to eat in New Orleans, I was shocked at how cheap everything was there! Furthermore, since everything is so fast-paced, you get your food QUICKLY. Only Bummer: Kim Kardashian went to Cafe Du Monde an hour after we went there I would’ve loved to see Kimmy.
2. St. James Cheese Company
Next on the list, St. James Cheese Company. I have no words. Just go. Whatever you do, just go. Also, order some mac and cheese on the side because you will not regret it.
3. Cafe Beignet
I actually didn’t end up going there, but apparently it is quite different than Du Monde, but special as well.
4. Willa Jean Cafe
The latte I ordered was lovely, and the actual breakfast meal…perfect, just perfect. I think my meat was some sort of smoked sausage, but I seriously felt like it melted in my mouth. It was perfectly cooked. The egg was perfectly gooey, if that’s even a word, and it was delicious paired with the ciabatta bread.
Sucre is a dream. I am really not sure which one I prefer at this point, Laduree or Sucre. The macaroons were mouthwatering, and I ended up getting the last box that day. They have a variety of desserts, and I’m sure anyone could find some godly snack within their selections.
6. Lucky Dogs
I highly recommend giving these a try. I don’t know if it’s the hype of hot dog stands or what, but I really enjoyed these in the airport. In fact, I enjoyed them so much that I forgot to take any photos. So enjoy the ones below from my friend Yusha! They have pretzels as well, so you can definitely find something tasty even if you don’t eat meat.
