So March was a very hectic, exciting month for me! I feel like every weekend I was doing something crazy. For example, during my Spring Break, instead of sleeping and doing nothing like I usually do, I ended up spending a few days in Phoenix and then attended the ABSEL Conference in San Diego. I actually presented two of my research papers that were accepted to be published, and learned a lot about myself in the process.
I have been doing undergraduate research for the past year and a half, and it has been one of the craziest, weirdest, and most challenging things I have ever done. All of my work has to do with gamification and simulations in higher education. Essentially, I’ve been researching specifically how SAP ERP Sim ( look up what this is here ) can be incredibly productive in decision-making classes for seniors in business school and MBA students as well. It’s still kind of freaky for me to process that I got three of my research papers published? As an undergraduate student? God bless my supervisor Dr. Dick for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to explore research and get published. I sure hope it pays off when I go after a PHD or law school. 😀
The presentations scared me at first, considering I was mainly presenting to older, white males with numerous degrees and PHDs. However, it went way better than expected and I met some of the most wonderful people at this conference. Definitely a highlight of my college career.
After I attended all my presentations and workshops, I spent most my free time running around San Diego and trying to see anything aesthetically, fun, or quirky as I usually do when going to new places. My bf Jax ended up visiting me while on the conference as well to support me, and graciously drove me everywhere while being a perfect Instagram boyfriend.
We went to Mission Beach, Holy Matcha, the Valencia Hotel, La Jolla Cove, Better Buzz Coffee, Oscar’s Taco Shop, and visited with his cousins! It was a perfect trip.
Jax described Holy Matcha as “Dolores Umbridge’s office”. If you know Harry Potter, you know this might not necessarily be a good thing.
We went to the Valencia Hotel after, and let me tell you, I felt like a movie star in the 60’s while I was there. I am for sure booking a room before I die.
We also went to Better Buzz Coffee, and I almost suffered a stroke. I drink at least 3 shots of espresso a day, or maybe 3 cups of coffee a day (Yes, I am aware this isn’t normal but it is necessary for me), and one single latte there almost killed me. The most caffeine I have ever had in a drink. I loved it. #addict
I made a friend in La Jolla. His name is Howard.
Overall, this was one of my favorite California trips yet! Can’t wait to come back to San Diego and more research conferences!
